These images are from my published works on the commercial fishermen of Rhode Island. Fearing that they would soon be gone from our waterfronts, I photographed them at their work both on shore and at sea. While there is much controversy over how commercial fishing should be regulated, I focused on the human aspect of the industry and tried to place modern fishermen within the context of their past, giving the viewer not only a sense of what it is like to work at sea, but also what we lose as a society when they are gone.
